Our Founding

On March 4, 1906, 64 men, including four priests, founded Vancouver Council - Number 1081.

First State Convention

On June 13, 1910, British Columbia's first State Convention was held in Vancouver. Five of our council members are in the photo below.

Army Huts

During the Great War, on the corner of Pender and Hamilton, our council managed war relief huts. Read more

1929

Public Speaking Classes

Louis Yehle began public speaking classes for our council members. He taught for 26 years.

1931

Lost Records

A fire destroyed many of our council records from the early days through the 1930s. Founding member William B. McDonald supplemented this loss by describing some of our early history. Read more

Knights of St. Gregory

Among those who received Papal Honours in our council's history and were made Knights of St. Gregory were Dr. Edward Gray, James D. McCormick, Dr. David Steele, and Justice James Coady.

Also honoured with Papal decorations were Leo Kilty, Judge A.H.J. Swencisky, and M. Leo Sweeney, all of whom were given the title of Knight of St. Sylvester.

Our council members James V. Hughes and W.E.G. Macdonald were invested with the Papal degree of Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice.

Membership Century Club

Our council was admitted to the "Membership Century Club" in 1942, for adding over 100 new members in one year.

Columbus Charities Association

Together with other Knights of Columbus councils in the Lower Mainland, we incorporated Columbus Charities Association to provide affordable seniors' housing. Read more

Columbus Tower

Columbus Tower, a seniors' residence, opened in 1970. Read more

Padre Night

We hosted our first annual Padre Night to express gratitude to the clergy who serve our community.

Columbus Long Term Care Society

Our members formed the Columbus Long Term Care Society to provide affordable seniors' housing. Read more

Headquarters

We finished building our headquarters, where we hold our monthly meetings.

1990

Columbus Residence

Columbus Residence holds its first residents on September 29, 1990. Construction started in 1988 and the residence officially opened in January, 1991. Read more

Young Grand Knights

Our youth movement sported five Grand Knights under the age of 30.
